Will I be able to get the angle to secure them neatly with an ordinary £30 ish gun?
You’re not going to like my answer, but if you seriously think that you need a nail gun to fix stair spindles you need to stop DIY until you have given the matter some thought and sought some advice.
To start with you can’t buy a nail gun worthy of the name for £30 – or anything like it.
If you want to fix spindles you should use glue, and lightly tack then in with a long panel pin. A good way is to start off with a number of wooden spacers cut to the exact distance between the spindles and with the ends cut to the same angle as the staircase. This will allow you fix a spindle, glue and pin a spacer top and bottom, glue and pin another spindle, and so on using spacers to ensure accurate spacing and vertical spindles. By starting from the bottom you will find that locating the spindles accurately is easy.
I would suggest that you get spacers professionally cut, and the angle on the top and bottom of the spindles also cut by someone who has a machine capable of ensuring that they are all exactly the same. It is easy to make a good job of installing a handrail with spindles providing you have spacers and spindles which are all correctly cut. Good luck.
